Grand Opening Weekend - Tucson, AZ KIRKLAND’S STORE GRAND OPENING AT THE TUCSON SPECTRUM SHOPPING CENTER Nashville, TN — Kirkland’s, the national specialty retailer of home decor and gifts for value-minded shoppers, will hold the grand opening of its 8,000-square-foot store at the new Tucson Spectrum shopping center July 18-20. This is Kirkland’s second store in the Tucson area and the fourth store it has opened nationally in 2008. Kirkland’s has been strengthening its presence in the Arizona market over the past five years, targeting middle- and upper-middle-income customers. It has 12 other stores in Arizona, nine of which are in Phoenix, as well as one in Yuma, one in Prescott and another store in Tucson at the Foothills Mall. The grand opening this weekend will feature special sale merchandise, as well as interior decorating seminars Saturday and Sunday by Tucson designer Sara Smith. Smith owns Custom Rental Designs by Sara Smith, a Tucson-based complete home design firm. Smith will offer demonstrations about both overall home decor planning and specific information like how to decorate a corner space in the home for under $200. She will also offer a personal in-store consultation. Kirkland's, which operates 325 stores in 34 states, provides a broad selection of well-priced, high-value home furnishings to suit a variety of predominantly female tastes such as framed art, mirrors, wall decor, candles, lamps, decorative accessories, accent furniture, textiles, garden accessories and artificial floral products. “We feel that the customer in this part of the country has responded well to our concept,” said Kirkland’s senior vice president and CFO Mike Madden. “It’s a combination of home growth, population growth and the fact that Arizona is a successful market for us. In addition, the Tucson Spectrum makes perfect sense for us when you consider the demographics of the area and the other retailers who are locating their stores at the Tucson Spectrum.” “Our store is designed to become a destination for budget-minded consumers who are looking for great deals as they try to spruce up their homes during these tough economic times,” said Madden. “We can’t do anything about high gas and food prices, but we can and do offer consumers great home furnishings at a reasonable price. People still like to go into stores to find things they like without spending a lot of money.” The Tucson Spectrum shopping center is being developed by the Phoenix-based Barclay Group. The shopping center will offer more than 1 million square feet of retail space once completed.
